Applications Prostate inflammation Anti-inflammatory and anti-viral effect Powerful antioxidant
Properties: An age-related condition in men is an increase in prostate size (benign hypertrophy). At the age of 40, 10% of men suffer from it and, from the age of 50, this percentage increases to 50%. The first symptom is a desire to urinate very often throughout the day, without a real need to evacuate; moreover, excretion becomes difficult and sometimes painful.
Saw palmetto, also known as Serenoa repens, is a plant whose fruit has long been used to help with prostate inflammation and benign hyperplasia. It contains phytochemical agents without side effects; this is not the case with drugs, whose harmful effects include impotence and dizziness. The action of Saw Palmetto is indirect, through inhibition of the enzyme responsible for the release of a hormone, DHT or dihydrotestosterone. The fruit of Saw palmetto inhibits the formation of this hormone by inhibiting the activity of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase.
