Aloe vera is the best known and most widely used of the more than three hundred existing aloe species, most of them originating in South Africa, although centuries ago they spread widely along the main trade routes.

It is not known how long this plant has been considered medicinal. From the year 2100 BC until its use by the soldiers of Alexander the Great and Queen Cleopatra who used it in their daily care.

There are also a multitude of historical documents from Romans, Greeks, Hindus, Arabs and from various peoples that comment on its medicinal and cosmetic qualities.

During World War II it was rediscovered that many burns caused in the population of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were quickly cured with aloe.

Today, Aloe Vera is a very popular indoor plant, its easiest way to use it is to apply its gel topically.
