Evening primrose oil is obtained by cold-pressing the seeds of Oenothera biennis. Also known as primrose, it is a very popular plant in the treatment of women's health issues.
It can also be easily found as an ornamental plant in public and private gardens because of its beautiful flowers that only open at night.
Characteristic properties:
Texture : Thick, green liquid. Color : Intense yellow to greenish. Scent : Sweet, reminiscent of nuts.
We can observe how linoleic acid stands out, and within this group Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is particularly prominent.
These essential fatty acids are the reason why it is used as a food supplement and in naturopathy, since GLA has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and benefits at the level of brain function.
It is also attributed with hormone-regulating and antihypertensive properties, although there are no definitive studies on these activities.
Oral use: Nutritional supplement and source of GLA, primarily to improve skin appearance, regulate menstrual function, and enhance concentration and memory, as well as help lower blood pressure and reduce internal inflammation.
External use: Especially indicated for dry, very dry, and mature skin. It is also used in facial and body preparations for its anti-wrinkle, antioxidant, moisturizing, and restructuring properties. It is also attributed with dermatological immune-regulating properties.
